Nitto Denko, the Japanese multinational that has consecutively ranked in Clarivate's Top 100 Global Innovators for 14 years, solidifies its position as the undisputed leader in OLED polarizers. Holding over 40% of the global market share for multilayer optical compensation films used in LCD TVs, Nitto serves as an essential supplier for domestic panel manufacturers. With comprehensive production, R&D, and sales networks spanning materials, electronics, displays, and healthcare, the Chengdu facility represents a strategic deepening of Nitto's commitment to the Chinese market while injecting momentum into Chengdu's display industry.

The relationship between Nitto Materials Technology and Chongzhou traces back to 2017 when the company established operations in Chongzhou Economic Development Zone, commencing OLED optical film production the following year. Its E-Mask optical protection films have since become core components for Chengdu's major panel manufacturers. The company reported ¥1.49 billion in output value for 2024 (an 8.4% year-on-year increase), with ¥1.03 billion achieved in just the first eight months of 2025.

Recognizing opportunities in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic zone and displaying confidence in Chengdu's display industry, Nitto invested an additional ¥2 billion in 2023 to establish the new OLED polarizer production base. Spanning approximately 90 acres (including reserved second-phase land) with 60,000 square meters of factory space, the facility will produce OLED polarizers and large-format E-Mask optical films. Remarkably, the project achieved trial production within just nine months—a testament to "Chongzhou Speed" and the region's business-friendly environment.

The plant's inauguration marks a milestone for China's display industry, filling Chengdu's crucial gap in upstream OLED polarizer materials while elevating Chongzhou's standing within Chengdu's electronics ecosystem. As a key project in Chengdu's display industry cluster strategy, it enhances local supply chain integration and industrial concentration.

Notably, China's first 8.6-generation EMASK optical protection film production line will commence operations in February 2025, significantly advancing Chengdu's ambitions to become the nation's largest flexible panel production base and "Flexible Valley."

Chengdu has strategically developed a comprehensive display industry ecosystem—from materials and equipment to panels and end applications—achieving 73% supply chain completeness. The concentration of industry leaders like BOE and Visionox has positioned Chengdu among China's top display technology hubs.

Chongzhou, as Chengdu's primary display industry base, has attracted numerous upstream and downstream enterprises including Zhanxin Adhesive, Baoang Optical, and Suzhou Kechuang, while accelerating construction of its advanced display materials industrial park. Nitto's new facility will further consolidate Chengdu's competitive advantages in next-generation displays.

Nitto's expansion exemplifies Chongzhou's business-friendly policies, where officials adhere to a "respond to all needs, interfere with none" service philosophy. "With displays becoming ubiquitous across applications, Chongzhou will implement national and provincial directives to develop new quality productive forces through technological innovation," stated a Chongzhou official, emphasizing commitments to foster industrial synergy and support Chengdu's ambitions to establish "Flexible Valley."
