Latest company news about TCL CSOT Unveils Highppi LCD VR Display to Reduce Screen Door Effect

Imagine immersing yourself in a virtual reality world, only to be distracted by the annoying pixelation that disrupts the experience. This common pain point in VR technology may soon be a thing of the past, thanks to TCL CSOT’s upcoming mass production of a 2.1-inch LCD-VR screen with an ultra-high pixel density of 1512 PPI (pixels per inch). The screen is designed to significantly reduce the “screen-door effect,” delivering a sharper and more lifelike visual experience for users.

Product Overview

TCL CSOT’s 2.1-inch LCD-VR screen boasts a groundbreaking 1512 PPI pixel density, placing it among the highest in the current market for mass-produced VR displays. The high PPI minimizes the gaps between pixels, effectively reducing or even eliminating the screen-door effect, which creates a visible grid-like pattern in lower-resolution screens. Additionally, the screen incorporates Fast LCD technology, which enhances liquid crystal response times to minimize motion blur and ghosting, further refining the VR experience. Mass production is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2022.

Technical Features

  • High PPI Specification: The 1512 Real RGB PPI density is the screen’s standout feature, significantly reducing pixelation and improving image clarity in VR applications.
  • Fast LCD Technology: Fast response times are critical for VR displays. This technology accelerates liquid crystal molecule alignment, reducing motion blur and ensuring smoother visuals, particularly in high-speed scenes.

Production and Manufacturing

To achieve these specifications, TCL CSOT invested heavily in research, development, and production upgrades. The company deployed advanced 68S exposure machines and collaborated with equipment suppliers to develop specialized manufacturing tools. After more than three months of optimization, TCL CSOT successfully improved production yield rates. Additionally, the company invested over 30 million yuan to establish a state-of-the-art VR module production line, incorporating the industry’s most advanced intelligent defect detection system to enhance overall manufacturing efficiency.

Market Outlook

TCL CSOT’s 1512 PPI LCD-VR screen made its debut at SID Display Week 2021 in May 2021, attracting interest from numerous domestic and international brands. After a year of design refinements and trial production, the product is nearing mass production and is poised to become a key player in the VR display market.

Company Background

TCL CSOT, founded in 2009, is a leading innovator in semiconductor display technology. Its product portfolio spans large, medium, and small-sized panels, touch modules, interactive whiteboards, video walls, automotive displays, and gaming monitors. With manufacturing bases in Shenzhen, Wuhan, Huizhou, Suzhou, Guangzhou, and India, the company operates eight panel production lines and four module factories, with cumulative investments exceeding 240 billion yuan.
